ESCC helps students with essential needs

ENTERPRISE, Ala (WDHN) — This summer the ESCC student advisory board created the blessings box which is kept in the student center.

After research showed 48% of community college students suffering from not getting food regularly, the box was created to be able to give back to the campus and help those students who may not have food at home.

The box contains clothes and hygiene products, and for those who may not want to give an item, there is a monetary donation box where they can put money.

“This project kind of started with students coming to our advisor’s offices and asking for food. From there, we kind of initiated the process to how we can do this without them having to come to ask us, to take away that need to feel shame for not having (it),” said Michael Harrison, Director of Student Support Services.

During the month of November, there will be boxes set up around the campus for people who want to bring food, clothing, or hygiene.
