Remember the benches in front of Milky Moo’s Homemade Ice Cream in Enterprise? Well, they’re gone.
“One of my employees texted me Saturday morning and said, ‘Hey, did you take two benches and a table?’ There are times where maybe something breaks and I’ll take it to the welders or whatever. Of course I sent back, ‘Nope, not me.’ So, we knew then they had been taken,” said Milky Moo’s Owner Lisa Gray.
Police issued surveillance photos of a man walking away with the furniture, asking for help with identifying the suspect.
“They actually came back four times over the course of three nights and stole everything we had out front: two tables, two benches, four chairs,” said Gray.
According to the Enterprise Ledger, White Oak Ale House also had some benches stolen. The owner of Po Folks Restaurant also told WDHN thieves have walked away with items outside his restaurant, even trying to steal one weighing over 400 pounds, potentially hurting themselves in the process.
“It wasn’t so much the cost of the benches,” Gray said. “They certainly weren’t free, but it was what they mean, because I had had so many memories with them.”
And so had her customers. She received lots of support on social media after posting about it on Facebook, with customers literally posting pictures of themselves by or on the benches.
“You work really hard to build up your business, and somebody makes a choice to come and take your property,” she said.
Gray and others are now seeking justice and some new benches for those cherished customers. Anyone with information on any suspects is urged to call Enterprise police at 334-347-2222.
