DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The Dothan Education Foundation Core Store, a store for Dothan teachers to get free school supplies for their students is back and better after the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’re so excited to be able to be back open since covid happened for us we shut down a little bit while schools were closed to figure out how do we re-operate and during that time it actually was a blessing for the Dothan Education Foundation,” Executive Director Lindsey Fountain said.

And that blessing consisted of getting a plethora of donations of various items of school supplies and landing a major national partner to help with the effort.

“So we’re excited to announce that we have a new national partner the kids in need foundation that is helping us get supplies in truckloads of product from companies all over the united states and a lot of those products are products returned, or overuned or surplused things like that that companies are donating just for our teachers..Office supplies all kinds of things you name it and we probably have it in our warehouse,” Fountain said.

Executive Director Lindsey Fountain says having this store is a way to pay teachers back for the hard work they put in providing an education for their students.

“They’re spending upwards on average of 600 dollars out of their pocket each year and unfortunately we can’t give the teacher a raise but we can do everything we can to make sure they have the resources in their classrooms and that really would help loosen their pocketbooks as well,” Fountain said.

If you’re a teacher, you can visit their website, fill out the application, and make an appointment. The store is open three days a week from 3-6 p.m. It’s located on Wise Drive.
