DPD arrests suspect in West Powell Street murder

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — On January 19, 2019, Andrew Jones was shot and killed on the 500 blocks of West Powell Street.

The investigation may have come to a close this morning according to police.

“We hit two houses on Linden Street today. We were unsure of which house the suspect was actually staying in because he goes between both houses,” Dothan Police Lieutenant Doug Magill said.

The suspect is Joseph Hall, 34 who was arrested Friday morning for possession of cocaine, heroin, marijuana, and multiple firearms.

He’s the main suspect in the case.

“Through the course of the investigation, we got a tip that kind of tied our suspect into this murder that we’ve been looking at for the entire time, and the information corroborated some of the information that we already had,” Magill said. “Which finally got us over the hump to make the arrest today.”

Jones was on his way to the gas station on Powell Street to get a drink. On his way, he was shot before he turned around to run back to his house before he collapsed and later died.

“The motive was apparently the victim owed the suspect some money,” Magill said.

Andrew’s sister told us that he was a great person.

“He’s a loving, caring person. He would give you the shirt off his back. If you need help, he would help you,” Donna Jones said.
