Dothan resident releases footage of officer-involved incident

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Dash cam video related to a story we brought to you back in May has now been public.

The video is from an incident at the Citgo on Montgomery Highway, where two officers were injured.

According to the officers, they were physically attacked when they tried to help Kevin Monkman, who reportedly broke their bones.

Now, a Dothan resident says there’s another side to the story.

“Before the video was released publicly, I spoke with him and interviewed him and his family, and I have seen copies of the body cam and video cam,” Kevin Saffold said.

Saffold alleges that the police used excessive force to subdue the man as well as the other alleged assailant, Carla Meek.

Since then, both Meek and Monkman have been released.

We reached out to Chief Parrish and he said via-text message the department believes “the actions of our officers were justified but if anyone has the reason to believe otherwise, they should file a formal complaint with the Police Department and it will be investigated in accordance with policy.”
