Dothan resident celebrates 100th birthday with parade filled with loved ones

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — While all birthdays so far this year have had to be different due to COVID-19, one celebration in Dothan was special all on its own.

Margaret Jones said she never thought she would make it this far.

“I never thought I’d live to be 100, no,” Margaret said.

But Monday, May 11, marked Margaret’s 100th birthday. Born in 1920, Margaret has lived her life and has provided life for several others.

“Well I started out with four children,” Margaret told WDHN. “I had eight grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. I lost track of the great greats.”

Being 100, Margaret said she has learned the simple things in life can bring joy.

“I love chocolate,” Margaret said. “I like anything sweet. Cookies, cakes, all the good things that make you feel like you’re really having a great time.”

She has also learned some of the most important life lessons.

“Treat other people the way you’d like to be treated,” Margaret said. “If everybody lived that way they’d be a lot happier people.”

Although the years have passed, Margaret says she has led a good life…and she’s not done yet.

“I’m able to be up and around and I still enjoy life just as much as I did when I was younger,” Margaret said. “Maybe sometimes more.”

Loving life and living it to the fullest. From all of us at WDHN, happy birthday Margaret; and many more.
