DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The Dothan Police Department held its 13th annual ‘Trot With SWAT’ fundraiser early Saturday morning.
Runners laced their shoes up and paid $25 to participate in a 5k or 10k race. Proceeds went towards getting critical equipment for the team to use such as ballistic shields, drones, or for training events.
Capt. Bubba Ott believes holding this run every year is very beneficial to the department.
“In the last 13 years, we’ve raised almost $150,000 dollars for our team. So, that’s money that the taxpayers didn’t have to pay out of pocket,” Capt. Ott said. That’s money the team raised, the running community in the Wiregrass, and our sponsors every year. Many of them have been with us the entire 13 years.”
According to Ott, he loves the event because it helps strengthen the bond with the community.
