Dothan police department displays new virtual training simulator

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The Dothan police department recently added a new state-of-the-art virtual training simulator in the Wiregrass Public Safety Center.

The five-screen training simulator presents over 800 training scenarios for officers to go through such as robberies, traffic stops and domestic disputes that officers face on a daily basis. The simulation’s objective is to work on officers’ verbal commands and fundamentals.

Lt. Jason Penn says the officers are well equipped, but there’s no such thing as too much training.

“We always wanna keep training, always wanna keep training. Never wanna sit back and say alright we reached this goal, so we can quit. We’re always gonna be training and a need to improve and this tool helps us to do that,” Lt. Jason Penn said.

Lt. Penn says churches and other organizations are welcome for a training session. You can contact the Dothan police department.
