DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) – City commissioners voted unanimously to hire Kevin Cowper as Dothan’s next city manager.
This is Cowper first time serving as a city manager, after being an assistant city manager for Auburn since 2007.
Cowper will officially start on April 29th and says the top items on his agenda will be getting to know city officials and understanding the finances of the city.
“Really spending a lot of time sitting down, talking to people, listening, doing the research, looking at all of those planning documents and getting out into the community spending time in the community and understanding what’s happening,” Cowper said.
Cowper salary will be $190,000 a year and Dothan’s mayor Mark Saliba says a lot of research went into coming up with that appropriate number.
“We put together a packet that had a lot of information of what other city managers made in other areas,” Saliba said.
“We had surveys that showed how they handled each compensation item from days and vacation dates. We had all the information that we needed.”
Cowper feels he can bring new and fresh ideas to Dothan and looks forward to the journey ahead.
“I’m looking to stay here as long as Dothan will have me and as long as we are being challenged,” Cowper said.
“I have no time limit on this opportunity, I’m here for the long run.”
