DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) – The Dothan Fire Department adjusted into “Move-up status” late in the 9:00 hour Tuesday night due to a working structure fire in the city and another where the department was offering mutual aid.
The first fire was dispatched at 9:29 PM at an apartment on Alabama Avenue in the Johnson Homes community. There were no occupants in the home at the time of the fire, and this was confirmed after a thorough search of the residence.
The second fire is in Ashford on Second Avenue. A large structure fire has shut down many roads in the city requiring the extra help from DFD.
More updates will follow on the Ashford fire shortly.
DFD is rated as one of the nation’s top fire departments by the Insurance Services Office, specifically due to the ability to handle situations like Tuesday night where the department was offering help to Houston County. “Move-up status” is a strategy used by DFD to place engines in stations with heavier workloads when the department reaches a high call volume or significant demands like Tuesday night.
