DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — As the Fourth of July approaches, the number of hospitalizations has continued to creep up over the last couple weeks with Montgomery County leading in numbers.

“The concerning thing about the July the Fourth would be indoor gatherings especially with 10 or more people,” said Dr. Russell Bedsole with Internal Medicine Associates of Dothan.

He says there has been an uptrend of numbers and he is most concerned about the latest gatherings people have had.

“I think the masks, the social distancing, the washing hands, we’ve all heard about these and I tried to reiterate these myself,” Bedsole said. “I think the masks make a difference.”

Although the masks are hot, Bedsole said the surgical masks are most effective. It stops you from touching your face, scratching your nose, and slowing the spread of the disease.

Overall, when celebrating Fourth of July this weekend, Bedsole wants people to wear their masks, wash their hands, social isolate, and keep your gatherings down to 10 people or less.

“We’re all in this together you and we all wanna stay safe and keep each other safe,” Bedsole said.
