WDHN was the first to tell you about this story yesterday. 12-year-old Kaden Hoffer was brutally attacked and mauled by pet pitbulls.
Kaden is in critical condition at UAB. He had another surgery yesterday and still has a long way to go in his recovery.
We spoke with Midland City Police Chief Keith Walker about the case and got the latest.
According to witnesses only two dogs were part of the attack.
A white, male pitbull and the mother dog of the puppies.
Both of those dogs have been put down.
Some witnesses have said there was a third dog in the attack but Chief Walker is still investigating that.
That third dog is locked inside the house of the victim.
Chief Walker told us that the white male dog was not vaccinated for rabies.
He says the mother will be charged for neglect to vaccinate. He went on to say the reason he was not vaccinated is because the vet said he was too vicious and refused to give the shot.
Police and witnesses say that the children were left alone in the home during the attack.
Because of that Dale County Department of Human Resources is now investigating whether or not this is a child endangerment case.
If so, charges will be brought against the mother.
Police say they are still investigating this case.
