DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — You may have listened to her music or maybe even tried to dance like her.
There’s no doubt that Beyonce is a musical artist that has captured the hearts and minds of those from all generations.
The artist headlined the Coachella Valley Music and Art Festival in 2018, and on that stage with her was a performer representing the Wiregrass — Samaria Barnes of Webb, Alabama.
Samaria is a graduate of Northview High School and former performer for the Southeast Alabama Dance Company.
She was chosen out of 600 other dancers to perform with Beyonce and said she thought it was a joke when she received the call.
“Like immediately, I was like ‘I have to call my mom’ because she knows the struggle I had to go through even to have to get to LA,” Barnes said. “Being in LA is very hard and my first two years were very rough, and she was the one who pushed me to always pursue this career that I’ve always dream of.”
Samaria has also performed with other musical artists such as Justin Bieber, Pharrell, and the Jonas Brothers.
Along with representing the Wiregrass, she also represents Alabama as the only dancer from the state to perform with Beyonce at Coachella.
She said performing before the 80,000-plus crowd was an amazing experience and hopes her performance encourages anybody who has a dream to continue to fight until that dream becomes a reality.
“Whatever it is that you want to do just continue to do it, and don’t give up,” Barnes said. “You’ll probably feel like you fail more than you succeed, but you coming out of that and pushing through and excelling that the biggest part of it.”
Samaria’s performance shows that determination and hard work will always bring a great reward, and that’s why she’s what’s good in the neighborhood this week.
