However, medical personnel aren’t wasting anytime to find another service.
Wiregrass Life Flight and Pilcher Ambulance completed about 25 missions a month with numbers like these the need for this service in Southeast Alabama, Southwest Georgia and the pan handle of Florida is evident.
Pilcher ambulance and Haynes Life Flight are coming together to serve the emergency response needs of the Wiregrass area.
“The reason you have an air ambulance service is basically because you have people with heart attacks and time is critical to save that heart muscle, stokes time is critical to save the brain and trauma obviously the golden hour is very important,” said Bruce McNeal.
This comes after Wiregrass Life Flight release a statement Wednesday saying operations have been shut down.
The program has served the area for two years and now they aren’t able to remain financially viable.
“There will be able a two week gap in service,” said Bruce McNeal.
The new program is looking to start the first part of September.
Until then “They do have a program out of Troy Alabama that can provide some services down here depending on what the situation is,” said Bruce McNeal.
This new service will also bring new benefits.
“They also carry blood,” said Bruce McNeal. “The previous provider did not carry blood and there’s certain situations where that element of blood will save a life.”
They have multiple bases in Alabama so we have back up support right here in the Wiregrass area.
