Congressman Bradley Byrne announces 2020 run for U.S. Senate

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Congressman Bradley Byrne has announced his run for the Republican nomination of U.S. Senate

He made the announcement at Wintzell’s Oyster House in downtown Mobile at 5 p.m.

Congressman Byrne alluded to his announcement last year on election night. After winning reelection, he said he was seriously considering running of US Senate.

If he wins the primary, he’ll face Democratic Senator Doug Jones.

The Doug Jones campaign released the following statement after Byrne announced his 2020 run.

“Given the results of his losing bid for Governor in 2010, in which he did not even win the Republican nomination, it’s hard to see why they would nominate a career politician like Bradley Byrne now. He has been part of the problem in Washington for years.
It doesn’t matter if Senator Jones has 1 opponent or 100. His focus is working for the people of Alabama whether it’s protecting our auto jobs and farmers against dangerous tariffs or building health care infrastructure in Alabama’s rural communities.
While some are focused only on the politics, and the politics of division in particular, Senator Jones is focused on finding common ground and getting things done for the people of Alabama.”
