Coffee County expresses concerns with E-911 call transfers

News

Coffee County’s E-911 coordinator has a word of warning to residents across the tri-states.

Marvin Mcilwain says using the internet to call for  9-1-1 emergency service may result in a busy signal. That certain service providers don’t correctly transfer calls made to 9-1-1. Mcilwain did not identify the particular providers but says the best thing is to check with your nearest law enforcement agency and make a test call to see if the communication center receives the caller’s phone number and proper location.

Mcilwain says it’s important if you use voice over IP, or voice over internet. make sure 9-1-1 has your proper information prior to a real emergency occurring.
