DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — A Dothan citywide back to school rally took place at Northcutt field at Westgate Park Saturday evening.
On a first-come, first-served basis, many people came out in the heat to grab free backpacks of school supplies for their loved ones heading back to school next week. School supplies consisted of pencils, markers, crayons, notebooks, paper, glue, most of the supplies to make sure your child is school-ready for the first day of school.
There was also free food and drinks, music, bounce houses, and guest appearances by city and school officials.
The objective for the event was to lend a helping hand for those who need it.
“There are parents in the community that need that extra help, so for families in need, we’re here. We want to help give your child that backpack of supplies to help start their school year on a good note,” Co-Coordinator Melissa Poke said.
The event was sponsored by many corporate and private sponsors such as Office Maxx, City of Dothan, Mayor Saliba, Dothan Hoops, and more. Even though it was the first year for the rally, organizers plan on having one again next year.
