City officials talk military COVID-19 precautions

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Mayor officials share their plans on keeping the military safe.

Maj. Gen. David Francis ordered that no military personnel is allowed to travel outside a 100-mile radius, and maintain social distancing requirements by keeping a six-foot distance from all other personnel who are not immediate members of the same household.

Both the mayors of Ozark and Enterprise said they are taking precautions for their communities’ military members.

“A lot of people are taking this thing lightly but when it comes down to the real deal we treat our military just like we would our own citizens,” said William Cooper, Mayor of Enterprise.

Mayor Bob Bunting of Ozark said that people need to wear their mask. He said it is the most effective thing to do to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“Wearing that mask is proven that that is a safeguard,” he said.

Bunting stresses the importance of protecting their soldiers, citizens and why wearing a mask is essential. Whether you are going to a restaurant, visit family, or the grocery store, you must adhere to this.

Overall both mayors said the safety of those who served in the military, and their citizens is their first priority.
