ABBEVILLE, Ala. (WDHN) — Abbeville Fiber has open only been open for a few weeks, but Henry County is already benefiting from the sawmill.

Probate Judge David money said Abbeville has seen an increase in traffic and sales tax, and once the mill is running at full capacity, the county will benefit even more.

The mill employs between 50 and 60 people so far and plans to hire just over 100 people.

“The spinoff factor has been tremendous,” Money said. “Six months ago, you could go in a restaurant in downtown Abbeville at noon, and there’d be four or five people in there. Now, there are lines so that part has been really good.”

Repairs to the rail line by the sawmill are also underway. Money said that the project should be completed in October or November.
