Troy, Ala (WDHN)- Mathew Jerrod Newman, 22, and Derron Lee Newman, 21, both of Troy have been arrested by the Troy Police Department.
Both have been charged with four counts of unlawful breaking and entering a motor vehicle and one count of criminal mischief 1st degree.
Troy Police responded to a call from the owner of a body shop in the 100 block of U.S. 231 North on March 1st. The owner reported that multiple vehicles inside the fenced area at his shop had been tampered with.
Catalytic converters were removed from two vehicles and the suspects had attempted to remove the catalytic converters from several others. Mutiple other car parts and a generator were reported as stolen as well.
Investigators processed the scene. They found and collected several tools that had been left behind by the thieves. Video surveillance was discovered that was used to help identify the Newman brothers and the vehicle that was used to transport the property stolen from the business.
Warrants were obtained for the arrest of Mathew Newman and Derron Newman. Mathew was arrested March 2nd in Troy. Derron was arrested early this morning by Troy PD investigators with assistance from the Luverne Police Department and the Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Department.
Both men were placed in the Pike County Jail. Bonds totaled $12,500.00 for each person. Most of the property stolen in this case has been recovered.
