BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham Fire and Rescue rolled out early Thursday morning to help those affected by Hurricane Michael in Dothan.
Authorities were sent to Houston County as part of the Alabama Mutual Aid System. Collapsed buildings and homes were expected in the area.
Captain Tobias Jones gave some insight into the situation by stating, “We do a lot of training to stay ready for these types of events, and when it’s time to get in the game and do what we do its kind of exciting even though it is a devastating event that we are going to. But at the same time, we stay ready and prepared.”
16 members of Birmingham Fire and Rescue were sent to help. The department does not know how long they will be assisting the area.
