Alabama voters will not have a say on a lottery any time soon.
According to the House sponsor of the bill, Representative Steve Clouse confirmed that the paper only lottery bill is dead this session. Tuesday, the bill failed a procedural vote by one vote.
Democrats believe more money should have gone to education, which is why they didn’t support this bill.
“I feat here that the plan is to use that money to pay for gov. Ivey’s prison plan to tackle ongoing problem in our prisons,” Rep. Merika Coleman (D) Pleasant Grove said.
“I would like to see all of it go to the general fund. I realize most people think it should go to the general fund,” Rep. Steve Clouse (R) Ozark said.
Representative Clouse said he will give the lottery another try next session.
