ACOM students compete in sixth annual simulation competition

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — ACOM students participated in a simulation competition on Saturday morning.

Each team in the competition was put in an emergency clinical scenario and was in a race to save the manikin patient. The procedure took tons of teamwork, medical knowledge, and communication.

After each team performed their medical procedure, they received an evaluation from a judging panel of medical professors.

Although its a competition, this helps prepare all students for challenges in the real world.

“So it teaches you to think on your feet, it teaches you to be confident in your skills, teaches you to listen to your intuition. You think, maybe I should do this, you don’t think on it you just act on it,” ACOM medical student Chris Grant said. “You just gotta trust yourself and it really submits your skills and knowledge.”

The champions of the competition will go on to compete in the SimChallenge competition in Washington, DC during the 2020 AMSA National Conference.
