DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — ACOM hosted its first day of science camp for youth students to learn about science and healthcare through hands-on activities.
This year’s camp theme is “Health, Wellness, and the Five Senses”. There were six stations set up for the students to attend. Students had the opportunity to learn about how medicines work, hydration, nutrition, optical illusions, and a few others.
Professor Carter hopes students will take away some important lessons from the camp.
“We hope, first of all, that they have a good time. Second, we hope that they learn something that they didn’t know and can take back home to share with their parents, siblings, and classmates. We also hope that we inspire an interest in them whether it’s in the science field, medical field, or just have a healthier lifestyle once they go back home and go back to school,” said Ronda Carter, an assistant professor of family medicine.
Around 60 of the 225 expected students came out to learn about science on Tuesday. The three-day science camp will conclude Thursday.
