A trip to the lake turns into a tragedy

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — A day of fun turned into a tragedy for one teen visiting Lake Eufaula.

“He had fallen and hit his head on rocks or something and ended up in the water,” Henry County Sheriff Will Maddox said.

The teen was taken to a nearby medical facility where he was later pronounced deceased. Sources say the teen was 14-year-old Tyson Thomas of Dallas, Georgia.

This death adds to the list of the fatalities that have happened at Lake Eufaula.

Sheriff Maddox says many times this is due to safety violations, poor decision making, or drug and alcohol use.

“It’s just certain things that happen that people think won’t happen,” Maddox said. “To me, we try to stress to leave the drugs and alcohol alone naturally and just obey all the safety rules and all the laws and a lot of times some of the things can be prevented if that would happen.”

The incident still remains under investigation.
