DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The Dothan City School (DCS) board has agreed to a 15 million dollar bond that will help renovate Dothan Preparatory Academy, Dothan High School, and the new early childhood center.
Part of the money will go to construct a road between Alice Street to Oaks Street for a carpool lot for Dothan Preparatory Academy. Chief School Financial Officer for DCS, Mike Manuel said there are still more needs that need to be met.
“Part of that is upgraded is the air condition at Dothan Preparatory Academy,” Manuel said.
“We are gonna do Selma Street and Carver as you heard today. The system at Dothan High is 40 years old and not many of us have a 40-year-old conditioner at our house so it needs to be completed.”
To accomplish this, DCS hopes to enter into an energy service contract with Tran.
“Hopefully the board will give us permission to borrow 10.6 million which will replace all the lighting and completely replace the HVAC system at Dothan Preparatory Academy and the controls that control that in the classrooms and also do that at Selma Street and Carver,” Manuel said.
The improvements are expected to begin once school starts in August, and expected to be complete by the beginning of 2020.
