DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — This year is the 21st annual Wiregrass Children’s Home, Festival of Trees. Typically, the event is a huge gala held at the Dothan Civic Center, but this year Santa has found new headquarters.
“We are having to do this thing virtually this year and this is the largest fundraiser every year for the Wiregrass Children’s Home, and there’s a deficit in funds this year because of the COVID Pandemic,” said Santa Clause.
Mr. Clause has been doing this part of his job for over 20 years now, and to show his commitment he goes all year long growing out his hair and beard for this special occasion.
“I live to help children, I like to see children happy, and I like to make children happy, and this is one of the greatest causes in our area right here in this area, is the Wiregrass Children’s Home”
While this year’s event has had to be virtual due to the circumstances, the spirit of the event has not been affected.
“We’ve actually had the same amount of donations come in before the auction and we have had the same amount of trees come in that were decorated by our community,” said, Ashley Thomas, Director of Development at the Wiregrass Children’s Home.
For those highest bidders, their Christmas trees and auction items can be delivered as soon as Friday, November 20.
Although the auction has now ended you can still donate to the Wiregrass Children’s Home by following the directions on their Facebook page.
