SouthEast Health doctor explains operational changes following their first COVID-19 case

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — SouthEast Health confirmed Wednesday afternoon its first patient that had tested positive for Covid-19.

As for how operations are now that the hospital is treating someone with Coronavirus, Dr. Amith Skandhan said they are following the Centers for Disease Control, Alabama Public Health, and Infection Control guidelines.

Some of the most often/frequent questions officials are being asked by the public is if this is just like the flu.

However, the mortality rates for Covid 19 are higher than seasonal influenza.

If you have mild symptoms or symptoms of cold, fever, or cold, you need to self-isolate.

Most cases have a mild course but you can infect vulnerable populations if exposed, as the disease can be fatal for them.

Dr. Skandhan said to stay safe, wash your hands, avoid touching your face and help to protect the old and vulnerable population.
