Majority of COVID-19 patients at Donalsonville Hospital in recovery stages

DONALSONVILLE, Ga. (WDHN) — Donalsonville Hospital said Friday that most of the people who tested positive for COVID-19 are now doing much better.

Since March 12, the hospital tested 328 people, 24 of which tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Out of this number, only one died after contracting the disease.

Twenty of the patients have either recovered or are recovering at home. Three are still being treated, and only one person is being treated at the facility.

“We are exceedingly proud of our medical staff as many have adapted their practices to telemedicine, coordinated testing for suspected COVID patients, eased fears of our community and bolstered the morale of their colleagues,” the hospital wrote in an online update. “Our community continues to make us feel appreciated with donated meals, letters and cards. We also have had many reach out with handmade masks to help supplement our supplies and for all of this, we thank you.”

The hospital still encourages citizens to maintain social distancing, wash their hands properly, and shelter family members who are at risk of suffering the severe effects of the virus.
