Local Churches and their Coronavirus response

Coronavirus

Dothan, Ala (WDHN)- With the Alabama health department giving the suggest of limiting meeting to 500 people or less, local churches have been announcing changes to their services.

Currently, we have official statements from First Baptist Church Dothan and Calvary Baptist Church.

First Baptist Church Dothan released their first statement around early on the 13th. They are watching the situation closely and working to keep their congregation on the city safe. They are increasing cleaning through cleaning door handles, children’s toys and other touch points. They are cleaning before, during and after the services. Below you can see their statement.

Overall, they want people to be cautious and try to stay connected.

Calvary Baptist Chruch released a statement to their members. They are currently going on with their normal Sunday morning activities. However, that are taking steps to create as healthy as an environment as possible. Below you will find the steps they are taking:

“1. We will be cleaning “high-touch” surfaces an extra time on Saturday afternoon in preparation for Sunday. We will also enlist our deacons to disinfect as much as possible throughout the morning.

2. We encourage anyone who is not feeling well to please stay home and recover.

3. We will prop open as many doors as possible and try to open other doors for you to limit you having to touch door hardware.

4. You will find your bulletin already in your chair for worship.

5. Until the virus no longer poses a risk, when we take the Lord’s Supper together, we will use sealed, pre-filled communion cups with attached sealed wafers.

6. We will have offering plates available at the doors for you to use instead of passing the plates during the service. Remember online giving is a great option for you as well. Just visit our website, www.calvarydothan.com/GiveOnline to give.

7. We will have volunteers to check-in preschoolers and children to minimize the hands on keyboards and touchscreens.

8. We encourage you to greet one another with encouraging words and forego our usual handshakes and hugs.

9. Finally, we encourage you to wash your hands often and take advantage of hand sanitizer when available. Also, remember the proper way to cover a cough or sneeze is with your upper arm.”
