DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Dothan Leisure Services employees are making sure children out of school are staying fed.
We caught up with program coordinator Stephanie Wingfield as she was making the rounds through several apartment complexes.
This is a program the city started earlier this month when the schools closed due to the threat of COVID-19.
Dothan Leisure Services is giving out 1,000 meals a day to kids 18 years and under. Wingfield made stops Wednesday at Ussery Homes, McRae Homes, and many other apartment complexes.
The children were more than excited to see their van pull up and hear the horn start honking.
“It’s a good feeling knowing that they’re not going to be hungry,” Wingfield said. “It’s a way for them to have some normalcy, you know. They can still rely on still getting that lunch meal.”
Meals are also being passed out at the Andrew Belle Center, Wiregrass Park, Walton Park and Westgate Park from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.
