MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WIAT) — Friday evening Alabama’s governor lit the official state Christmas tree.
The theme of this year’s ceremony was “Every Light a Prayer for Peace.” The official state Christmas tree is a 35-foot Eastern Red Cedar from Letohatchee, Alabama, donated by Robbins Taylor, Sr.

Joining the governor was Major General David J. Francis, Commanding General of the U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence and Fort Rucker, as well as Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed and other community leaders.
The event began at 5:30 p.m., with musical performances by the 151st Army National Guard Band at 5 p.m.
As the state asked the public to wear masks and practice social distancing, members of the media, public officials and staff present also wore masks and practiced social distancing during the event.
