Alabama sorority nixes 600-person party over virus worries

Alabama News

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — A University of Alabama sorority has canceled plans for a city-approved party for as many as 600 people following complaints that the huge outdoor bash could spread the new coronavirus.

The Kappa Delta sorority called off its “Farm Party” on Tuesday, hours before the six-hour event was scheduled to begin after The Daily Beast published a story about the gathering.

Coronavirus cases are on the rise nationwide, but the Tuscaloosa City Council voted 4-2 on Nov. 10 to approve a license that would have allowed for alcohol to be served at the party.

The sorority president says it was called off to protect the health and safety of the community.
