FULTONDALE, Ala. (WIAT) — The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office says the person who was killed during Monday night’s severe weather in Fultondale was a local teen.

Elliot Hernandez, 14, was found deceased around 10:30 p.m. Monday. He was discovered by first responders in the basement of his family’s residence in the 4000 block of Oak Street. His death is the only confirmed storm-related fatality.

Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates told CBS 42 multiple members of Hernandez’s family were rescued from the collapsed residence.

Fultondale Councilman Jimmie Lay says Hernandez’s mother has been released from UAB Hospital, where she was receiving treatment. His father is still recovering from his injuries in the hospital. As of Wednesday at 12:30 p.m., there is no information regarding the teen’s older brother.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help the Hernandez family. If you’d like to donate, click here.
