TROY, Ala. – After two weeks of fall ball competition, the Troy University softball team has seen a great deal of success, winning all six games.
The fall season opened up with a 25-0 win over Lurleen B Wallace, with Rachel Rigney picked up eight strikeouts. Chandler Griffin and Heather Johnston shined on the offensive end, as both homered for the Trojans in the blowout.
Game two was a closer affair, as the Trojans knocked off Gulf Coast, 3-0. Griffin got back on the board again, hitting her second home run in as many games. Mackenzie Kayler made her debut in the circle, striking out two batters in two no-hit innings.
The Trojans concluded their first double-header with a 19-2 win over Enterprise. Meg Willis was strong in the circle, pitching three innings in relief while allowing no hits and striking out four. Johnston and Chelsey Eytel hit back-to-back home runs, propelling Troy to the win.
Troy took to the field again on October 9, to face Central Alabama. The Trojans cruised to a 12-4 win, behind a dominant performance from Sarah Thomas who struck out seven of the eight batters she faced. Johnston picked up her third home run in just four games. Troy donned special purple shirts for the game in support of #Project19. #Project19 is an initiative started by Troy soccer in support of Kailani Decock and her fight with Hodgkin's lymphoma. Jaycee Affeldt was stellar in the circle, striking out 15 of the 23 batters she faced. Erica Davis had a tremendous day with the bat, hitting a home run and driving in another run in the sixth inning after a Rigney triple. Jordan Gray broke up the Bison no-hitter with a double in her first at-bat.
