One person killed in Dothan fire

“One of the occupants was able to escape from the structure prior to the Fire Department’s arrival.”
Anne McCuistian, 80,  died early Sunday morning when her home in downtown Dothan was destroyed by a fire. Her husband was able to get out of the home safely.

“Units arrived on scene to find heavy fire showing from the rear of the structure,” said Chief Larry Williams. He said another person was able to escape the flames. The name of the victim has not been released at this time.

Chief Williams added, “Our thoughts are with this family during this very difficult time.” Williams continued, “This is tragic for this family, our Department and our entire City.”

The home, located at 800 South Appletree Street, is considered a total loss according to Williams. Investigators from the Dothan Fire Department continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
