Amos Newsome left a meeting without commenting on controversy surrounding the absentee vote that gave him an apparent victory.  He and fellow commissioners had just completed the canvass of last week’s vote in which Newsome won by 12 votes.  His victory came on the strength of 119 absentee votes he received compared to only five for challenger Lamesa Danzey.  Other commission races were also certified during the Tuesday session.

A criminal investigation has been launched into possible vote fraud regarding the absentee votes. The probe was initiated last week after a meeting between Danzey’s supporters and Houston County District Attorney Doug Valeska.  The probe is being handled by veteran sheriff’s office investigator Bill Rafferty.
