A judge issued an arrest warrant Thursday for a man sought on attempted murder charges in connection with the shooting of two other men earlier this year. Kamal Russaw, 32, was due in court for an unrelated robbery charge but failed to show up.
Russaw has been the target of police since Chris Carpenter was shot in the head May 23 while sitting on the front porch of an East Lafayette Street home. Carpenter is recovering while a second person shot in the arm received far less serious injuries.
Those arrested include Cornelius Keon Standifer, Brandon Layfette Jones and Kamaluddeen Raheem Russaw. However, Kamal Russaw could not be located by investigators.
Previous DothanFirst reports cite police sources who said the shooting stemmed from an argument that began when a car driven by one of the suspects traveled at a high rate of speed through the downtown residential neighborhood.
Court records show Kamal Russaw was arrested March 24 on the robbery charge and later released on $50,000 bond. He was scheduled to appear before Circuit Judge Kevin Moulton Thursday for arraignment on the charge. When he failed to do so Moulton issued an Alias Writ of Arrest.
