Law enforcement checking up on sex offenders this Halloween

While kids are rounding up treats from the neighborhood tonight, local law enforcement officers are keeping an eye on sex offenders.
Law enforcement officers were out today checking up on registered sex offenders in Houston County. With over 200 registered sex offenders in the county, they can be found in many different neighborhoods. The only rule they have when it comes to choosing a home, is to stay 2,000 feet away from a school but there's not any kind of law when it comes to interacting with children on Halloweeen. Deputy James Brazier and investigators with the Houston County Sheriff's Office were out today checking up on those registered sex offenders.

"Myself and another investigator will be out tonight riding around looking for the safety of the children... If there's any problems the patrol deputies will call myself or the other investigator and we'll go handle it," said Brazier.

They follow up with the offenders throughout the year to make sure they still live where they say they live and holding the same job. But on Halloween authorities make it a priority to talk to every offender and make their presence known to keep everyone safe on a night that's meant for kid-friendly fun. If you want to know if there's a sex offender living near you, go to NSOPW.gov or call the Houston County Sheriff's office at 677-4808.
