“We will use the money to purchase some technology equipment that will enhance our aviation mission,” Hughes said. “Our aviation assets, shared by Houston and Dale County, does a lot including searching for missing people including Alzheimer’s patients,” he said. The sheriff also points to searching for fugitives and the ability to contend with natural disasters as other reasons the aviation mission is so important.
Lee commended Hughes for what he terms “an excellent job.” The legislator said law enforcement has to be funded to be successful and expressed delight regarding the grant.
The funds are made available by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the Department of Homeland Security.
