Hotel Workers, Inmate Subpoenaed In Human Trafficking Case

Alonso Santiagito seeks bond when he appears before judge this week.
The girl allegedly ran to the guest room of another hotel seeking help
The defense attorney for a man charged with Human Trafficking has subpoenaed several witnesses, including an inmate, to testify in a bond hearing scheduled this week. Alonso Santiagito, 27, was arrested August 9 after allegedly holding a teenage girl in a Dothan hotel against her will. He was jailed without bond pending Thursday’s hearing. Santiagito is also accused of drug charges.

The girl allegedly ran to the guest room of another hotel seeking help. Investigators say the girl was a runaway picked up by the accused in Mississippi then taken to Tennessee and eventually to Dothan. She is believed to have been held in Dothan from about July 18 until shortly before Santiagito’s arrest.

Investigators say the teen was forced to have sex with men solicited by Santiagito over the internet. He is also accused of giving the girl drugs to keep her cooperating with his prostitution scheme.

Among those subpoenaed by defense attorney Mark Overall are employees of Quality Inn, where the girl was held, who are ordered to produce videotape containing footage of Santiagito and those with whom he may have been involved. Law enforcement agents familiar with the case say there may have been another victim who refused to cooperate with investigators.

A subpoena was also issued for an inmate in the Dothan City Jail where Santiagito was first housed before he was transferred to the Houston County Jail. Her involvement in the case is not known and DothanFirst will not identify her until more is known about her role.
