High-Ranking Dothan Officer Fights Termination

Captain Keith Gray is challenging dismissal from the force after 28 years of service.
A high-ranking Dothan police officer fired two weeks ago has filed an appeal of his termination. Captain Keith Gray is challenging dismissal from the force after 28 years of service.

“The matter will be heard by the Personnel Board,” said Personnel Director Delvick J. McKay. However, no date for the hearing has yet been set. If the personnel board upholds Gray’s termination he could appeal to Houston County Circuit Court.

Gray was terminated September 23rd for intolerable violations of department policy. Police Chief Greg Benton would not elaborate on specifics of an internal affairs investigation. Gray had been placed on administrative leave in August after several people believed to be members of a motorcycle gang were arrested for their involvement in an altercation. Gray is not believed to have been present when the fight occurred.

Pat Jones, the attorney who represents Gray, did not immediately comment.
