From Alabama Media Relations:

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Former Alabama pitcher Jimmy Nelson's dream of making the Major League Baseball roster came true on Monday, when the Milwaukee Brewers called up the 24-year old. Nelson, who is ranked as the Brewers' top prospect by MLB.com, is expected to pitch out of the Milwaukee bullpen upon arrival with the team.

In 15 starts with the Brewers Triple-A affiliate the Nashville Stars this season, the right-hander had a 5-6 record and 3.67 ERA. He was promoted to Triple-A in early June from Double-A Huntsville, where he was 5-4 with a 2.74 ERA in 12 starts. Nelson finished with 163 strikeouts and 65 walks in 152 1/3 innings between the two levels. Earlier this season, Nelson pitched in the 2013 MLB Futures Game.

Nelson was a second round selection by the Brewers following the 2010 season at Alabama. Nelson, who played at Alabama from 2008-10, completed his career at the Capstone with a 4.61 ERA and a 14-9 record. As a junior on 2010, Nelson had a 9-3 record in 18 games, while posting a 4.01 ERA and 98 strikeouts in 110 1/3 innings pitched.

Nelson is one of five players who played at Alabama and are currently in MLB, joining David Robertson (Yankees), Alex Avila (Tigers), Tommy Hunter (Orioles) and Josh Rutledge (Rockies).
