First Baby Born in 2014

Southeast Alabama Medical Center's first baby of 2014 was born at 12:11 a.m.
Many people say the start of a new year means a clean slate, or a new beginning. And for one family, they'll always remember how they rang theirs in.

Lianne Maupin and boyfriend Justin Grimes welcomed a new baby boy at Southeast Alabama Medical Center early this morning at 12:11 a.m.

Even though he came five weeks early, he still weighed a healthy six pounds, seven ounces, and was 19 inches long.

Maupin says she's shocked that her son was the first baby born in the new year.

"It feels weird. I didn't even think about having the first baby of the year. I just thought oh, okay, we're having a baby, but then I realized it was New Year's Day. They [the nurses] were like, 'you might have just had the first baby of the year!', and I'm like, 'okay!' So, it's a little happy ending to the whole birthing process," Maupin says.

Maupin and Grimes are still deciding on a name, but they have narrowed it down to either Noah or Christian.
