A man was shot and killed Monday after he apparently drew and gun and fired on an Ozark police officer. The shooting occurred on College Street. Sources say the man reached for his gun and aimed it at the officer who then fired.
The Alabama Bureau of Investigation was summoned to the scene to conduct an independent probe of the shooting. It is routine procedure for the ABI to conduct investigations involving police officers. Ozark Police Captain Tom Hicks said the officer who fired the shots, possibly three of them, was not hurt.
It’s not immediately clear what led to the shooting though those close to the investigation said the man killed suffered from dementia. He is believed to be in his 80’s. His identity has not been released at this time.
