Dothan officer suspended after domestic incident

Sources familiar with the situation say Cpl RaeMonica Carney used patrol car to stop man from leaving her home.
A Dothan police officer already disciplined regarding another matter has been placed on administrative leave after she was involved in a domestic incident early Monday morning. Cpl. RaeMonica Carney will be off the job with pay pending completion of an internal affairs investigation.

“All I can say is Cpl. Carney has been placed on leave,” said Dothan Police Department Major Steve Parrish. “This is a personnel matter and I can’t comment on any specifics,” he said.

Sources familiar with the situation say Carney used her department issued cruiser to block a man described as her boyfriend from leaving her home. Multiple officers in the department confirm her car was confiscated after the man called dispatchers and officers responded to the scene.

Carney was suspended and placed probation earlier this year because of Facebook comments she made online. The posts appeared favorable toward a Los Angeles police officer believed responsible for California shootings that left four people dead. The officer later died as officers stormed a remote cabin where he was hiding.

The Dothan Personnel Board upheld the disciplinary measures imposed by Police Chief Greg Benton.
