Dothan Man Arrested For Setting Fire To Dothan Home

Task Force conducts arson probe resulting in arrest of Larry Johnson
A Dothan man was arrested Monday and charged with arson in connection with a fire that heavily damaged a downtown home. Larry Johnson, 49, was charged with Arson 2nd Degree in connection with the August 12 fire at 201 East Newton Street.

“When fire units arrived, heavy smoke and flames were visible from the home and could be seen quickly spreading through the structure,” Police Chief Greg Benton said. “The fire was determined to be suspicious in nature. The subsequent investigation was conducted by the Dothan Arson Task Force. The Task Force is comprised of members of the Dothan Fire Marshal’s Office and investigators from the Dothan Police Criminal Investigation Division,” Benton said.

Johnson was jailed in lieu of $35,000. No motive was given in the written statement issued by Benton. The home was unoccupied when the fire occurred.
