Upon recovering stolen jewelry the department found three world war two medals.
"The suspect took us to a location behind his residence where he had several plastic bags of jewelry buried in the ground,” said Hartford Assistant Chief, Ben Berry. “Our victim in that theft identified a portion of the jewelry, but this jewelry in the bag here and these two world war two medals remain unidentified."
The medals are fairly common honors given to those who have served in the armed forces.
The medals were checked with theft reports in the area, but no articles of this type have been documented as stolen or lost.
The medals were found on January 30th and the department is still looking for the hero that these belong to.
"It may solve some other burglaries, but the most important thing is I feel like these medals mean a lot to someone. Whoever they belonged to served our country. He may have put his life on the line in service and we'd certainly like to get them back to him," said Berry
Barry said they have reached out through various social media sites to get the word out.
If no one comes forth to claim the medals they will be stored away in the evidence room.
"We just hope that the owner of these will see them and come in and pick them up, because we'd sure like to return them to them"
If you have any information on the recovered medals please contact the Hartford Police.
