Troy Softball opens 2014 season at home against Auburn

Troy softball season begins with in-state rival Auburn.
TROY, Ala. – The 2014 Troy softball season begins on Thursday at 3 p.m. with in-state rival Auburn coming to the newly renovated Troy Softball Complex.

Live stats and video will be available on the softball schedule page on TroyTrojans.com.

The newly renovated Troy Softball Complex went under a $3 million refurbishing in the offseason. The renovations included lowering the field for better sight lines, replacing the outfield grass with artificial grass, an upgraded press box and an 8,000-square foot training facility that includes batting and pitching areas, locker rooms and training rooms.

The Trojans return several top athletes from a season ago, including Preseason All-Sun Belt selection Kacie McAllister. McAllister hit .313 with 31 runs scored, 46 hits and nine doubles in 2013 while also leading the SBC in 13 sacrifice bunts. She started every game for the Trojans and led the team with a .985 fielding percentage.

In all, Troy returns five starters in the field overall and three starters in the circle, and brings in a talented group of 12 newcomers.

Auburn returns 14 letterwinners from a squad that won 30 games a season ago. The Tigers are led by first year head coach Clint Myers. Myers spent the previous eight seasons at Arizona State University where he helped lead the Sun Devils to two National Championships.

Troy will also host the 2014 Troy Subway Invitational from Friday through Sunday, with Alabama, Kennesaw State, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, North Florida and Northwestern State coming to town.
