Troy Baseball falls to Jacksonville State

The Troy baseball team fell to Jacksonville State 7-3 at Riddle-Pace Field on Tuesday night.
TROY, Ala. – The Troy University baseball team fell to Jacksonville State 7-3 at Riddle-Pace Field on Tuesday night.

The Trojans (10-9, 1-1 SBC) fell behind early after Jacksonville State scored five runs on four hits off Troy starter Jesse Nelson (1-1), who was saddled with the loss. Austin Sullivan entered the game after Levi Tate had tossed 1 1/3 innings of relief to turn in a career performance. Sullivan pitched six scoreless innings allowing just two hits and striking out seven on 78 pitches.

Clay Holcomb walked in the bottom of the first inning and advanced to second on a Garrett Pitts ground ball. Holcomb would steal third and later score when Trevin Hall reached on an error. The Gamecocks would add a run in the second before Troy could answer in the fourth.

Trevin Hall tripled to lead off the fourth and scored on a David Hall ground out. Nick Masonia then singled and scored on a TJ Binder single to right field.

Jacksonville State (12-8) would add another run in the ninth to cap the scoring.

The Trojans will host Alabama State on Wednesday. The teams will finish their suspended game from last week at 6 p.m. before beginning the regularly scheduled game. Troy led the suspended game 8-5 in the top of the eighth inning.
